There’s a line in the Tao Tse Ching that’s extremely humbling: “True wisdom seems foolish.”

It’s such an important reminder that no matter how much we think we know, no matter how much we’ve progressed or advanced, we can still be blinded by our own biases.

Life is a constant struggle to become more and more aware of these biases so that they don’t blind us to the truth.

That’s exactly why Aristotle stated all those centuries ago: “The more I know, the more I realize I don’t know.”

Or why the Persian poet Hafiz proclaimed, “I am the veil of myself . . . I must be removed.”

Everyday we open our eyes is an opportunity to realize that we ourselves are the only thing blocking us from the awe and wonder around us.

And so we should all be a little less confident in our own intelligence and knowledge.

Humility is the only way to learn.
